My Most Precious Possession Essay
It is perhaps second nature of living beings to acquire and possess something. Animals too zealously guard their possessions, like their home, children or food. This could however be directly linked to their survival. However, humans go about consciously acquiring worldly possessions, to augment their wealth, power or influence. In this pursuit some of them become sentimentally or emotionally attached to some object or things and detest sharing it with anyone.
Being a typically sentimental and emotional person, I also have this inherent weakness, of being possessive about some of my things. I am paranoid at the thought of losing or sharing it with anybody. Some of my friends misinterpret this as being selfish, but it is not so. I am otherwise quite generous, but the thought of sharing or lending my Parker pen, Rolex watch, and my laptop is anathema for me. This is for I am sentimentally and emotionally attached to them.
The Parker pen and the Rolex watch was presented to me on my tenth birth grandfather and grandmother. They are no more, but their wonderful gift always reminds me of them. I am in mortal fear of losing or damaging them. I use them on special occasion for I have an uncanny feeling, that they are lucky for me. Hence I wear the watch and use the pen, only when I have to sit for an examination, or go out on an important occasion.
The laptop is the other worldly possession which was presented to me by my father, when I got good grades in the final examination last year. I am possessive about it, for a different reason altogether. I detest anybody using my computer, for the setting gets disturbed and it takes quite a lot of time and effort to set it right. The other day, my younger brother switched on the laptop in my absence. The video games he played on it made the lap top crash and it took a lot of time and effort to set it right. Ever since the laptop is out of bounds for him.
These three possessions mean the world to me. While the pen and the watch have a emotional value for me, the laptop is an essential tool for my work and study. I dread losing or sharing, these worldly possessions.
